PPC campaign management. If you’re spending money on Google Ads and still getting clicks from people looking for the cheapest airport taxi, there’s a problem.
That’s exactly what we found when we reviewed a live campaign for one of our chauffeur clients, a premium Liverpool-based business offering executive airport transfers and private hire. They weren’t looking to compete with Uber, they were trying to reach high-value customers ready to book a discreet, professional chauffeur service.
Effective ppc campaign management is essential for targeting the right audience and achieving the desired results.
When it comes to PPC campaign management, what they needed wasn’t more clicks. It was better ones.
What they needed wasn’t more clicks. It was better ones.
This is how we approached their PPC campaign management and why it made all the difference.
The objective: quality leads, not wasted clicks
The goal was clear from day one. Generate bookings and phone enquiries from people looking for a high-end airport transfer or executive chauffeur, without wasting budget on low-intent clicks.
The client wasn’t interested in taxis, shuttles or anyone searching with the word “cheap”. They wanted business travellers, international visitors and families booking private travel in a premium vehicle. No compromises.
Building the campaign properly from day one
We launched with a single search campaign focused solely on luxury travel. We used high-intent keywords and a lean ad structure, sending all traffic to a booking page where users could get a quote and request a call back.
We enabled call tracking for phone enquiries lasting over 30 seconds and planned to add quote form tracking once the campaign had gathered enough data.
The budget was small, which meant the targeting had to be smart.
The clean-up: keyword strategy that actually fits the brand
After a couple of weeks of data, we decided to take some time to dig into performance. What we found wasn’t surprising but needed action.
Twenty keywords were removed. They either had low click-through rates, irrelevant search intent or language that completely misrepresented the client’s positioning. Think “airport taxi” or “shuttle hire”.
We replaced all broad match terms with tighter phrase match variations and began rebuilding around high-intent, location-based search terms. Think “chauffeur to manchester airport”, “private airport transfer liverpool” and “executive car hire merseyside”.
To further refine the campaign, we added a negative keyword list to filter out anything related to taxis, buses, group transport or budget options.
Small budget, smart targeting
We also switched the location settings from “presence or interest” to “presence only”. That means ads now only show to people physically in or regularly visiting the target areas, instead of users in other countries casually searching for UK travel services.
We removed the maximise conversions bid strategy due to limited data, and reverted to maximise clicks to give the campaign room to gather learnings without overspending.
Now the campaign is leaner, better targeted and built for real users who are more likely to book. We’re continuing to monitor the search term report weekly and will scale the campaign further as we gather more conversions.
What this means if you’re running your own ads
If your Google Ads campaign is attracting the wrong traffic, it’s probably not a targeting issue. It’s a strategy issue. Good PPC campaign management is about precision. It’s about reviewing what’s working, removing what’s not and having the confidence to say no to unqualified traffic.
We don’t run ads to get traffic. We run ads to get clients.
If you’re spending money on paid search and not seeing quality leads, we’ll show you how to fix it.
